Southwest Florida Water Management District Issues Phase I Declaration
Posted Date:
Longboat Key is within a 16-County area that is currently under a Modified Phase I Water Shortage Declaration by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Phase I encourages all potable and well water users to be responsible, water conscious consumers.

The Town of Longboat Key is currently under new Phase I Watering Restrictions.  A “Phase I” declaration means that rainfall and groundwater conditions are below normal and warrant attention.  The SWFWMD Phase I Water Shortage rule prohibits wasteful and unnecessary water use.

Do your part by:

·     Reducing indoor water use.

·     Testing and repairing or adjusting each irrigation systems to address broken pipes and other leaks, damaged or tilted sprinkler heads, and other sources of water waste.

·     Continuing to follow applicable year-round water conservation measures. The Town’s once-per-week lawn watering schedule remains in place. Watering days and times can be found at

·     For those entities with a Water Use Permit, continuing to follow any applicable conditions, including a review of current water conservation programs, (1) assuring that permit-required elements have been fully implemented and (2) determining what additional demand management measures could be reasonably employed, should resource conditions further deteriorate.
