NIA - Joy of Movement. Regain or maintain your joy of movement and improve your flexibility, agility, mobility, balance, and strength as you move to music with friends. Nia is like Sudoku for your brain and body all in one class. The Nia Technique is an international 30-year fitness movement practice endorsed by major hospitals and practiced in 44 countries. Classes include movements from Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Modern dance, Jazz, and Yoga. Nia can be adapted to individual abilities and will positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live. Have fun while you workout your body's natural way!
MOVEMENT FOR LIVING - Begin your day with movement to stretch your body and brain. Find new ways to bring flexibility and balance to your daily living through gentle movements. Find comfort and ease with stretches for all fitness levels and abilities. Brain games from the Ageless Grace™ program will add to your mental agility and sharpness to create new neural pathways. Self-assessment tools will be provided for you to chart your progress. This class will keep you moving through changes in your life.
Instructor Ann Alvis (October - May)
MUSCLES & MORE – (Strength and Endurance, Flexibility and Balance) This weight bearing exercise class uses free weights, rubber tubing and other strength building equipment. The focus is on slow, controlled moves using proper form for maximum benefit and minimum risk of injury. Benefits of strength training includes improving bone density to help prevent osteoporosis; increasing muscle mass for weight management; improving muscle strength and endurance; helping you look and feel better; and helping relieve stress. This hour-long class is appropriate for all fitness levels from beginners on up. Proper lifting technique is more important than the amount of weight used. Everyone works at their own level. There is a substantial body of scientific evidence that it is never too late to start this kind of exercise.
Instructor Mirabai Holland (November- May)
PUMPING THE PRIME™ - Strengthen muscles and bones. Burn calories and boost metabolism. Manage weight and develop lean muscle mass. Exercises are carefully chosen for a total body workout. Participants should be able to get down on the floor and get up readily. (Please bring a towel)
YOGA-STRETCH & CORE - Increase Flexibility, Range of Motion and Core Strength. Improve balance and better posture. Exercises help promote a strong supple youthful body. Participants should be able to get down on the floor and get up readily. (Please bring a towel)
Instructor Molly Schechter (November - April)
PILATES MAT CLASS – Beginner-to-intermediate level mat work. Strengthen your core, improve your posture, flexibility and overall condition – and have fun doing things you might not have thought you could do Modifications provided for back and neck problems. This is classical Pilates that has proven successful for so many. Try it – you’ll like it! Please bring a large towel; tights and tee-shirts preferred (so the instructor can see how you move) but any comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing is fine. Bare feet.
YOGA CLASS – Yoga-based stretch class … an hour of movement that will leave you feeling relaxed and energized … increase our range of motion and ability to perform and enjoy activities of daily living … improving your balance and posture … suitable for most fitness levels (exception is recent hip replacements). Participants should be able to get up and down from floor without difficulty. Please remember to ring a towel. Tights and tee-shirts preferred (so the instructor can see how you move) but any comfortable, easy-to-move-in clothing is fine. NO shoes.
